Flared jeans: who they suit and how to wear them

Jean flare Please porté avec une veste en jean

Fitted at the top, flared at the bottom: flared jeans create a never-ending leg. It is a cut that needs a little attention, especially when it comes to length and shoes. Here is how to get it right.

Who flared jeans suit

Almost every figure, which explains their comeback. The jeans follow the thigh, then widen from the knee. This flare balances the hips and lengthens the leg, especially in a high-rise.

They work particularly well on petite figures, on one condition: that the hem almost touches the ground once you have your shoes on.

The right length

A flare is chosen together with its shoes. The hem should skim the ground with a heel, or stop just above it with a flat shoe. Too short, it breaks the line; too long, it wears out at the heel.

On our styles, the hem opening measured flat ranges from 20 to 27 cm, in other words 40 to 54 cm all the way round. The higher the number, the more pronounced the flare.

How to wear them this autumn-winter

For the office

A structured blazer, a tucked-in shirt, low-heeled ankle boots. The flare then takes the place of tailored trousers.

Every day

A loose knit and trainers. The volume of the jumper echoes that of the hem, and the waist stays defined by the waistband.

With a coat

A long, straight coat, worn open, extends the line of the jeans. It is one of the most elegant silhouettes of the winter.

Colour combinations

A medium wash remains the easiest: it goes with ecru, camel, brown and black. Raw denim is dressier and pairs readily with a blazer. A light wash brings brightness to winter outfits, especially with a cream knit.

Mistakes to avoid

A top that is too long and hides the waist: the flare then loses its effect. And a shoe that is too chunky, which weighs down the hem instead of complementing it.
